AboutHerndon

Welcome to the Town of Herndon, the third largest town in the Commonwealth of Virginia and home to 23,000 residents. Amidst a 21st century Northern Virginia landscape of high rise buildings, industrial complexes and transportation hubs, Herndon maintains a small town charm that is evident in its downtown, its neighborhoods and its commercial areas.

The Town is organized under the Council/Manager form of government. The Town Council is the governing body, which formulates policies for the administration of the Town. The Mayor and six members of the Town Council are elected simultaneously for two-year terms. The Town Manager is appointed by the Council and works with the Town's professional staff to direct Town operations. The Town Manager facilitates completion of Town Council priorities and encourages the entire workforce to provide superior service to all constituents - residents, visitors, and businesses.

In Virginia, incorporated towns are an integral part of the counties in which they are located. Fairfax County provides to the citizens of Herndon public education, library services, health and social services, mental health assistance, fire and rescue service, judicial services, correctional facilities and additional recreation services and facilities

Mayor Steve DeBenedittis and the Herndon Town Council have crafted a Vision for the Town that offers a clear and inspired projection of the Town, its attributes and its potential for growth and success over the next 20 years.
