2008 Citizens' Opinion Survey
Many citizens of the Town of Herndon are satisfied with their overall quality of life in the town, according to a survey conducted on the town's behalf by Norfolk, VA-based Continental Research Associates, Inc. (CRA).
In fall 2008, CRA conducted a telephone survey of 300 citizens, asking for opinions on a range of topics including the condition of town streets and neighborhoods, satisfaction with special events and amenities, and satisfaction with the level of service provided at town facilities. Citizens were randomly selected to participate in the survey.
Town services that ranked particularly well in the survey included customer service at the Herndon Community Center (99.3% satisfied); programs and services at the community center (99% satisfied); programs and services at the Herndon Centennial Golf Course (98.2% satisfied); the response time of town police officers (97.6% satisfied); and the quality of the town's water and sewer services (97.3% satisfied). All told, ten town service items received satisfaction rankings of 95% or higher; 14 items received satisfaction rankings between 80% and 94.9%; and one item - the flow of traffic on town streets - received a ranking below 80%, with 77% of respondents satisfied.
"Few communities enjoy scores for municipal services that are so favorable," CRA wrote in its executive summary. "Despite the very challenging economic conditions, residents seemed to hold an overall favorable view of life in Herndon."
"This survey of our citizens gives us a benchmark against which to measure the results of programs and services initiated by the town," said Mayor Steve DeBenedittis. "We use survey results to budget town resources in ways that our citizens have indicated are important to them."
