Commercial Building Permits
The Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code (USBC) requires a permit before any construction, demolition, or trade work takes place in a commercial building. The following work is exempt:
Painting
Glass Repair
Glass replacement if not in a hazardous location
Door replacement (except fire rated doors)
Floor coverings
Plaster repairs, tile work, wall coverings
With the exception of interior demolition, and systems furniture all commercial building plans (new and alterations) must be approved by the Fairfax County Fire Marshal prior to submittal to the Town of Herndon. You will need to submit a completed building permit application to the Building department to receive a transmittal form to take to the fire marshal.
