Commercial Building Permits
Interior Alterations
Please see the Tenant Layout Requirements for detailed requirements
Review Process:
Step 1- Complete Permit Application
Step 2- Submit application to Town of Herndon in person or
by fax or email. Staff will complete a transmittal form
to the Fairfax County Fire Marshal and Health
Department (if applicable) and return the transmittal
and the completed application to you.
Step 3- Take transmittal, completed application and 3 sets of
drawings (4 sets if Health Department approval is req.)
Fairfax County Fire Marshal and Fairfax County Health
Department (if applicable).
Step 4- Once Fire Marshal and Health Department approval is
obtained return all approved drawings and required
forms to the Town of Herndon.
Required Forms:
Commercial Building Permit Application
ADA Form
Asbestos Form
Current VA contractors license or Owners Affidavit
Fee's: There are no fees due until permit approval is complete.
You will be notified of the fee when you are contacted
informing you the permit is approved and ready for
pick up.
If you are doing any work that changes or adds to the plumbing, electrical, or mechanical systems you will need to fill out a separate permit application for each. Please visit the trade permit page for additional information.
Exterior Alterations
Review Process:
Step 1- Obtain approval from the Department of Community
Development
Step 2- Submit required forms and documents for permit
approval. Approval will take approximately 5-10
business days. You will receive a phone call from our
office as soon as the permit is approved.

Current VA Contractor License or
Owner Affidavit
Required Documents: 3 sets of detailed plans
2 copies of plat/site plan
Fee's: There are no fee's due until the permit approval has
been complete. You will be informed of the fee when
