Contractor Licensing
All contractors in the State of Virginia (including building, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC) are required to obtain a Virginia State Contractors License if they are bidding on a job in excess of $1,000. The three license classifications are listed below:
Class C: Total Value more than $1,000 but less than $7,500.
Class B: Total Value over $7,500 but less than $70,000.
Class A: Total Value over $70,000.

When is a Town of Herndon Business License Needed?
A Town of Herndon Business License is needed when a contractor performs more than $25,000 worth of work in the Town a year. To apply for a business license please contact the Finance Department at 703-435-6813 or online.
