Do I Need A Permit?
Do I need a permit to install a new driveway, or widen my existing one?
You do no need a building permit to install a new driveway or widen your existing driveway. You will need to contact the Zoning Department to obtain approval. If you are planning on working in the Town's Right-of-Way or altering the driveway apron in any way, you will need to contact the Department of Public Works to obtain a right-of-way permit.

Do I need a permit for a retaining wall?
You are only required to obtain a permit for a retaining wall if the wall retains more than 24 inches of earth.

Do I need a permit for re-roofing or residing my home?
A permit is not required to reside your home. A permit is only required for re-roofing if you are changing the plywood underneath the shingles. If you are just replacing shingles a permit is not required.

Do I need a permit for a storage shed?
If the storage shed is 150 sq. feet or more you are required to obtain a building permit. Prior to obtaining a building permit you will need to contact the Zoning Department to meet their requirements.

Do I need a permit to finish my basement?
Yes, you are required to obtain a building permit along with seperate permits for any HVAC, electrical, or plumbing work being performed. For more information please see our finish basement guidelines.
