Yard of the Month - The CCI recognizes yards that are creatively landscaped, beautifully maintained and contribute to the beauty of their neighborhoods with this award, given three times per year and acknowledged at a Town Council meeting and with a gift certificate from Meadows Farms. Prizes are awarded in two categories: single-family detached and townhouses. Deadlines for 2013: May 15 for June award, June 15 for July award, September 15 for October award (no awards in August or September). Click here for details, nomination form.
Garden Tour - The CCI plans and operates a self-guided tour of selected Herndon gardens. The 2013 Garden Tour will be held Sunday, June 23, noon - 4pm.Ticket and tour information to be announced.
The Holiday Homes Tour of Herndon - This tour takes place on the first Saturday in December. Several Herndon homes are on the tour, each having its own historical or local interest. Local community organizations sponsor each home on the tour. The 2013 tour will be held on Saturday, December 7, 10am - 4pm. Ticket and tour information to be announced.
Dress Up Herndon for the Holidays - Deck the halls, hang the wreaths, turn on the lights! On a selected evening in December, between 5:30-8pm, judges will circulate throughout the town to find the town's most whimsical, classical, traditional or lights-filled decorations (and more). Winners receive a yard sign as well as a certificate from the Mayor and public recognition. Nominate your own or your neighbor's home; drop us a line at information@herndon-va.gov and look for the judges' van circulating through your neighborhood! Good Neighbor Award - The CCI encourages residents to nominate a special person within their neighborhood who goes the extra mile to help other neighbors, and who makes noteworthy contributions to improve the quality of life within their neighborhood. Winners are recognized by the Mayor and Town Council and are presented with a commemorative plaque. The nomination deadline for the 2013 Good Neighbor Award is to be announced.
