Community Forestry
What is Community Forestry?
Community Forestry is a joint effort between the Town staff, the citizens and resources available from other organizations. It not only involves new plantings and maintenance of existing trees, it involves protecting our environment for the future, educating ourselves and our children and taking the time to enjoy our efforts as well as the efforts of past generations.
What does the Town Community Forester do?
The Town has on staff a certified arborist serving as the Town's Community Forester, John Dudzinsky. John is responsible for the health and welfare of trees on Town property. Citizens desiring information and advice on the protection of trees against insects and diseases or who would like to report a hazardous tree should contact the John at (703) 787-7380 or john.dudzinsky@herndon-va.gov.
The Community Forester also oversees the coordination of Herndon's Farmers Market from May through October.
Want to Volunteer?
The Forester works with civic organizations and youth groups coordinating volunteer beautification efforts in the community. To find out more about volunteer opportunities contact the John at (703) 787-7380 or john.dudzinsky@herndon-va.gov.
