Dana L. Singer Appointed Director of Public Works

The Town of Herndon has named Dana L. Singer as director of Public Works. Singer replaces Robert B. Boxer, who retired after 14 years as the department’s director.

In her new post, Singer is responsible for direction of the town’s public works operations and initiatives, to include planning and direction of activities to maintain the town’s infrastructure; serving as principal advisor on public works issues; overseeing execution of capital improvement projects; exceeding customer service standards to town citizens; and management of the town’s public works employees.

Singer joined the town’s staff in 2001 as a program and projects coordinator in the Public Works department. Her rise through the ranks culminated in her most recent position as the department’s deputy director, responsible for leading the engineering division and overseeing building inspections, engineering projects, site plan review and capital project delivery. She holds a bachelor’s degree in architectural engineering from the Pennsylvania State University and is a licensed Professional Engineer.

Singer reports directly to Town Manager Bill Ashton and serves as a member of the town’s management team. “During her tenure with the town, Dana has proven herself as a highly capable leader of people and projects,” Ashton said. “I have every confidence that she will excel in her new role and I am delighted to welcome her to the town’s leadership team.”

Singer’s appointment is effective August 1. She may be reached at 703-435-6853 or dana.singer@herndon-va.gov.
