Cancellation Due to Inclement Weather
All classes/programs starting before 3:00 p.m. are cancelled when Fairfax County Schools close for the day. For classes starting at 3:00 p.m. or later, a decision will be made by 1:00 p.m. that day. When Fairfax County Schools have a delayed opening, classes will be held as scheduled. On weekends, or if you have questions about classes being held, call the departments Inclement Weather Line at 703-435-6866.

Please note: If Fairfax County Public Schools close due to inclement weather for multiple days in a row, the Herndon Parks and Recreation Department may choose to hold classes dependent on the weather and road conditions.  

Outdoor Programs Held in Spring, Summer and Fall Seasons
A decision on outdoor programs/classes will be made one hour prior to the start of class. Late cancellations may occur due to unpredictable weather conditions.

Programs/Classes are scheduled for make-ups and are rescheduled by the Recreation Services Supervisor. Drop in classes that are included with the community centers admission fee are not rescheduled.

Our preschool program follows Fairfax County Public Schools closings but with a slight modification. If schools have a 1-hour  delay, we open our preschool on time and if there is a 2-hour delay our preschool will open one hour late.
