NEWS RELEASE

HERNDON, February 17, 2026 – Town of Herndon Seeks Public Feedback on Draft Roadway Safety Action Plan

The Town of Herndon has released its draft Roadway Safety Action Plan (RSAP) and is inviting residents, businesses, and community stakeholders to review the document and provide feedback by February 28, 2026 at www.herndon-va.gov/rsap.

Funded through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program, the RSAP is a comprehensive, data‑driven strategy designed to eliminate traffic fatalities and serious injuries in Herndon over the next 12 years.

“As our town continues to grow and more people move around in different ways, it’s critical that we take a thoughtful, proactive approach to roadway safety,” said Mike Shindledecker, Transportation Engineer. “This planning effort brings together the best available data, community input, and national best practices to guide future improvements. Before we finalize the plan and put it into action, we want to hear directly from the public. Your feedback will help ensure that our priorities reflect the real needs and experiences of people who live and travel in Herndon every day.”

The RSAP will help the Town:

  • Prioritize safety investments
  • Support competitive applications for state and federal grant funding
  • Coordinate with the 2050 Comprehensive Plan and other ongoing planning efforts
  • Improve safety and comfort across all travel modes
  • Build a long‑term, community‑driven vision for safer streets

Residents and stakeholders are encouraged to review the draft plan and submit comments by February 28, 2026. Community feedback will be incorporated into the final RSAP before it is presented to Town Council for adoption this spring.

View the draft plan and submit your feedback at: www.herndon-va.gov/rsap
