Herndon Town Council adopts unified Community Donation Policy to strengthen local programs and events

HERNDON, Va. — On March 24, 2026, the Herndon Town Council adopted a Community Donation Policy that streamlines the town’s support for qualified community not-for-profit organizations serving Herndon residents. The new policy consolidates previous donation programs into a single, transparent process with consistent eligibility and selection criteria.

“This policy invests in the events and programs that help make Herndon vibrant,” said Mayor Keven LeBlanc. “It opens the door for organizations of all sizes to access town support in a fair and consistent way, promoting equitable access to resources and helping more of our neighbors take part in the programs and events that bring us together.”

The policy directs town resources to initiatives that align with strategic priorities while emphasizing equity and accountability. Eligible organizations may submit one application per fiscal year and may request support for multiple programs or events in a single application. The maximum award is up to $50,000 per organization per fiscal year. To promote fair access, a portion of annual funds is reserved for smaller requests.

Applications are scored using a Council approved matrix that considers community benefit, alignment with town strategic priorities and brand, financial soundness and sustainability, organizational capacity, community reach, and economic impact. Awards are allocated with support from an expert staff committee based on the criteria the Council defined in their adopted policy.
