Special Project Announcements
- A public survey has been opened for the Town's housing study. Public input is vital for understanding local opinions on housing needs, issues, and a housing vision for the town. A link to the survey link is below more information is on the housing webpage.
- A contract has been awarded for consultant services to development the 2050 Herndon Comprehensive Plan and the Town's first Market Study & Economic Development Strategy. Both projects are expected to kick-off in the Fall of 2025.

- The Town's first Urban Forestry Management Plan is in development following completion of the first public tree survey and canopy analysis with expected completion of a draft in early 2026.

- The Town is launching a public tree donation program for the Fall 2025 planting season that would allow individuals, businesses, and organizations to contribute to a fund dedicated to the planting trees in town public spaces.

About Us
The Department of Community Development (CD) provides the planning and zoning services for the Town. In this capacity CD manages long range and current land use planning, urban design, plan review, zoning enforcement, forestry and environmental sustainability, historic preservation, and transportation planning efforts within the Town. We strive to assist local residents and the business community and advance a shared goal of improving the quality of life in Herndon now and in the years ahead.
