The Town's first Urban Forestry Management Plan is in development following completion of the first public tree survey and canopy analysis with expected completion of a draft in early 2026. A public survey is open with public input requested.

A town-wide housing study is being conducted that will help inform town on what policies and regulations may be appropriate based on the housing profile and needs identified in the study.

About Us
The Department of Community Development (CD) provides the planning and zoning services for the Town. In this capacity CD manages long range and current land use planning, urban design, plan review, zoning enforcement, forestry and environmental sustainability, historic preservation, and transportation planning efforts within the Town. We strive to assist local residents and the business community and advance a shared goal of improving the quality of life in Herndon now and in the years ahead.
