Home MenuTown Budget and ACFR
The FY 2026 Town of Herndon budget totals $95,738,447 for all funds, with a General Fund total of $50,438,225. It sets the real estate tax rate at $0.2700 per $100 of assessed value and the meals tax at 4.5 percent. The BPOL rate was increased for two business categories, retail and repair services, bringing them in line with the current Fairfax County schedule.
The FY 2026 budget accounts for rising costs associated with maintaining a top-quality workforce, ongoing supply-chain pressures, and the need for the Town to assume additional capital costs as American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding concludes.
The budget marks a significant step toward addressing long-standing structural challenges. For the first time in over a decade, we are reducing our reliance on reserves to fund recurring capital expenses. We have increased funding for our vehicle fleet, bolstered contingency reserves to prepare for future economic uncertainty, and funded improvements at Chestnut Grove Cemetery.
Several key community priorities are supported by our FY 2026 budget, including continued funding for cultural events, additional investments in public safety, and several initiatives aligned with the Town’s Strategic Plan.
