Project Update September 2025:  All major phases of the project including stormwater and sewer improvements are now complete. Site restoration is underway including repaving of the pedestrian trail and access road. The pedestrian bridge will be temporarily closed the week of 9/29/2025 and should reopen on October 6, 2025.

Project Description:  The project, located on the Town’s property along Folly Lick Trail between Herndon Parkway and Young Ave will replace a critical sanitary sewer trunk line that is undersized and aging.  The project will also rehabilitate a Town maintained stormwater pond in the same area. The project is anticipated to start in Winter 2024 and finish in the early summer. The working hours for the project are 7:30am – 4:30pm, Monday – Friday.

During construction, the pedestrian trail from Herndon Parkway to Young Ave will be closed and an alternative pedestrian route will be provided. The pedestrian bridge connecting the Town of Herndon to Fairfax County’s Folly Branch trail will be temporarily closed during the project and reopened when safely able. At the completion of the project the pedestrian trail will be repaved, and the surrounding areas will be restored to their natural conditions. See diagram below for alternative pedestrian route connecting to Folly Lick Branch Trail.
