Cast your line and reel in some fun at the Kids Fishing Derby, one of Herndon’s favorite family traditions! Join us along Sugarland Run for a relaxing morning of fishing in a beautiful, restored natural habitat.

Event Highlights

  • Learn how to bait, cast, hook, and prepare your catch
  • Volunteers available throughout the morning to help new anglers

  • Trout Unlimited will assist with cleaning and storing your fish

  • A limited supply of fishing poles and bait will be available

  • Explore recent stream restoration improvements along Sugarland Run

  • A great opportunity for families to spend time outdoors together

Important Information

  • Please wear shoes that can get wet or muddy (sandals not permitted).

  • All participants under age 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

  • Teens and adults 16+ must have a valid Virginia State Fishing License to fish.

  • Adults are not permitted to fish during kids-only fishing time.

  • Ask staff about extended fishing opportunities after the derby.
