The Herndon Police Department has two specially trained canines who  provide support to patrol officers by conducting searches of buildings, vehicles and open areas.  K-9 Jake and K-9 Diesel are also utilized to track fleeing suspects, to search for narcotics, and to assist in locating missing persons.

The Herndon Police Department also has a highly trained explosive detecting canine.  K-9 Jude, along with his handler Officer Aftab, are trained to search vehicles, buildings, and open areas for explosive materials.
