What is the purpose of the Rental Inspection Program?
On June 26, 2007 the Herndon Town Council adopted Ordinance 07-0-19 allowing the Department of Public Works, Building Inspection Section to develop and enforce a Rental Inspection Program. This program will adopt specific residential districts to perform Building Code Compliance Inspections on rental units. The purpose of this program is to “protect the public health, safety, and welfare of the occupants of dwelling units inside the designated district.”
The Town of Herndon's Rental Inspection Program ensures that rental properties are maintained in a safe and sanitary manner. All rental properties within the rental districts are required to be inspected by Town of Herndon Staff. Properties are checked for violations of the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code as well as adherence to town codes, including occupancy requirements.
